Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz has signed a new multi-year deal to remain with Strikeforce ahead of his Jan. 29 title defense against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in the main event on Showtime, the promotion announced Tuesday.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my career with Strikeforce,” Diaz said in a release. “When I first got here, there weren’t a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that’s definitely changed. There’s a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I’m ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me.”

The 27-year-old Diaz (23-7) has won eight-straight since 2007, avenging his most-recent loss over KJ Noons in October while also earning wins over Marius Zaromskis and Hayato Sakurai this year.

Diaz now faces Santos after a matchup with middleweight rival Jason “Mayhem” Miller recently fell apart when they failed to agree on a catchweight.
