The Dagu Lu restaurant and massage strip has a new tenant, officially opening September 9 (currently in soft opening): Little Huia. Rather than being yet another Italian addition to the block (that would be Nolita down the street), Little Huia is trying to do something relatively new in Shanghai: introduce New Zealand fare to the area.
So what’s with the name? The yellow-feathered huia bird on the outside of the restaurant is unique to New Zealand, and will act as the mascot for the new restaurant, says co-owner Justin Crooks, who's working with Roger Chu and Jeff Chai on the venture.
