Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic Doesn’t Make Excuses, But Has Plenty of Them

For someone that doesn’t like to make excuses, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic sure offers up a lot of them. While the Croatian may believe he’s simply stating facts when he shares his disadvantaged state, in America it’s called sour grapes. Particularly when you’re coming off a lackluster knockout loss.

“I think [the crowd] expected a more aggressive fight. I prepared as much as I could with all the injuries that have followed me,” the legend told CroCop.info. “Also, I was sick [in Indianapolis]. I did not want to fight aggressive until the 3rdRound but he hit me with the knee.”

Remember that “built-in excuse” Frank Mir called Cro Cop out on leading up to last Saturday’s UFC 119 showdown?

“I don’t think I was disgraced in this fight because I accepted it at the last moment,” he shared.

While CC’s bout of the sniffles was previously unknown, his most legitimate excuse/fact he could have referenced was the right eye injury he sustained one week prior to showtime. Although his eye looked like THIS immediately after the incidental poke, and was still significantly red just two days prior to the main event, the striker opted not to spotlight the injury.

Speaking of owies, the Croatian was finally granted his wish when he was medically suspended for 180 days following his loss to Mir. While the sabbatical is a much needed one, it appears to have come one fight too late. How do we know…

“I need to rest and cure my injuries, I have a lot of injuries. After Pat Barry, I said that would be my last fight but I fought again,” Cro Cop stated. “This year of course I will not fight. I have the option for two more fights. Knowing myself, I will do both.”
