Melvin Guillard has competed in so many fights over his controversial career, nobody seems to know exactly how many times “The Young Assassin” has actually taken the battlefield. According to Sherdog, the lightweight bumped his record to 27-8-2 (1 NC) following his 1stRound TKO of Evan Dunham at “UFC Fight for the Troops 2” on Saturday.
After quickly disposing of the talented up-and-comer, Guillard immediately called for a title shot by motioning for a belt to be wrapped around his waist – a la Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.
“I want my title shot. I’m the dark horse in this game at 55,” Guillard emphatically stated. “No disrespect to anybody at my weight class, but I am the best 155-pounder in the UFC. You know what, I don’t want to wait til a rematch, so you keep lining them up, I’ll keep knocking them down.”
The 27-year-old has rattled off four consecutive Octagon scraps, emerging more impressive and refined after each victory. In regards to his championship aspirations, Guillard gave himself a two-year window to get to a five-round affair.
“I will go undefeated in 2011, and I will get a title shot before the end of this year or no later than 2012, I promise you that,” he said following the biggest win of his MMA career.
Although he’s been in the game for a minute, Guillard has brought his game to new heights since taking his talents to Albuquerque, New Mexico to join Greg Jackson’s famed academy.
