Sounding out on the election

Sounding out on the election
sound trucks for Tokyo election

They stand on the top of the trucks. They say "Hello my name is XXX. Thank you for your support." And then they repeat. And repeat. And repeat. And repeat...

As the Upper House election approaches, scheduled for July 11, the streets of Tokyo have a decibel problem. Anybody who has been lucky enough to experience a sound truck going past their house at 8am on a Saturday will be able to tell you: This is not campaigning, it's a racket.

CNNGo headed to Shinagawa Ward recently to observe the trucks and politicians in action. ''I don't really listen to them,'' said Ken Hayashi, 42. ''I know who I am going to vote for anyway.''
