Antje Traue a Superman: Man of Steel Villain for Zack Snyder

Antje Traue a Superman: Man of Steel Villain for Zack Snyder

We first heard from Deadline that German actress Antje Traue has been cast as a villain in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel, and the safe assumption was that she’d be playing Ursa to Micheal Shannon’s General Zod. The latest info from Variety reports that Traue will actually be portraying a character named Faora, but this doesn’t mean Deadline’s guess was wrong.

Comics and movies don’t always see eye-to-eye. Ursa never existed before she was first introduced in Richard Donner’s Superman, but a character very similar to her had been causing problems for the Man of Steel for a while. Faora was a Kryptonian female with a uncontrolled hatred of men. With Zod as an ally and skill with the Kryptonian martial art of Horo-Kanu, Faora was a tough foe to face.

Of course, comic continuity doesn’t always see eye-to-eye either so there’s more than one Faora to choose from. A later version of the female villain depicts her as an orphan metahuman that possesses the ability to disrupt molecular bonds. Like her previous incarnation, she also teams up with General Zod.

Personally, I’m hoping for the martial arts version of Faora because she could give Superman a real run for his money.

Superman: Man of Steel is expected to start shooting this summer, with a release planned for December 2012.
