Although UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture has yet to make an official announcement regarding his MMA future, the 47-year-old is laying out his early 2011 Outlook calendar and nothing involves participating in the violent sport that made him “Captain America.”
“I’m getting ready to do a movie in Grand Rapids, Michigan, here the first couple weeks of December with Bruce Willis,” Couture told Dave & Mahoney radio Show (Transcribed by MMAJunkie). “‘Setup.’
“It just happened a couple of days ago. It’s a fun character. Small part, but a fun character in kind of a gangster movie.”
“The Natural” was seen last month cruising to a 1stRound submission victory over boxing legend James Toney at UFC 118. While he’s rattled off three consecutive Octagon wins and appears to be fending off Father Time better than ever, the Fountain of Youth will inevitably run dry and Couture will be forced to hang up his iconic MMA gloves once and for all.
Thankfully, Couture won’t be depending upon his fists or 401K to enjoy the latter years of his life. Or will he…
“(My fighting days are on hold) for now,” Couture said. “You never know what [UFC officials] are going to throw at me. We’ll see, and if it’s interesting, I might not be able to walk away from it.”
Couture’s most significant big screen accomplishment was his spot in the summer blockbuster “The Expendables.” Because the star-studded action film posted solid box office numbers, a Part II is in the works and will require Couture’s participation.
“It’s definitely happening,” Couture said. “The target for now is March to start shooting the sequel.
“I think the trick is going to be getting everybody free to come back and do it, but I think the first one was so successful, everybody is going to be excited to come back for the second.”
While a LeBron James-esque announcement regarding his future is unlikely, it appears as though Couture is taking a step further from the Octagon with each passing silver screen script.
