Middleweight contenders Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami will meet in the Spike-televised main event of UFC 122 on November 13 in Oberhausen, Germany, with the winner likely earning the next shot at the 185-pound title currently held by Anderson Silva, according to the Wrestling Observer.
Belfort (19-8) returned to the UFC in September with a first-round knockout of former champ Rich Franlin at 195-pounds and was expected to challenge for the belt before being sidelined by a shoulder injury.
Okami (25-5) dropped a decision to Chael Sonnen in September for just his second UFC loss in 11 fights, but has bounced back with wins over Lucio Linhares and Mark Munoz.
After retaining the title with a fifth-round submission of Sonnen at UFC 117, Silva will face Sonnen again as early as January and the Belfort-Okami winner will then challenge for the belt later in the year.
The rumored UFC 122 fight card includes:
- Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami
- Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
- Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
- Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Goran Reljic
- Amir Sadollah vs. Peter Sobotta
