True Blood creator Alan Ball expressed his desire to bring back Mississippi vampire king Russell Edgington back for Season 5. When he was last seen in the third season finale, Russell was buried underneath concrete after killing a human over live television. Since he is 3000 years old, Russell is one hella strong dude, and that concrete won’t hold him forever, but the actor who plays him, Denis O’Hare, told Access Hollwood believes Russell will be changed in some way once he gets free.
“The trick is – and these guys are better at it than I am – but the trick is to reinvent [Russell], because he can’t come back and be the same guy,” Denis said of the writers. “He’s gotta come back transformed in some way and in a surprising way and I look forward to whatever they’re choosing to do with him.” The obvious storyline for Russell is one of revenge, but again Denis doesn’t think that will be the way things go. “The thing I love about him is his dreams aren’t petty. He’s never motivated by anything petty, so I can’t imagine if he came back he’d be motivated by simple revenge,” he said. “I think he’s always out for something bigger. “
While he waits for Season 5, Denis will be starring in Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story on FX, which was just picked up to series last month. When you’re done watching True Blood every week, be sure to check back at BoomTron for the latest review!
